Disability planning is a component of estate planning that focuses on the unique requirements of providing for special needs beneficiaries during the testator’s life as well as after death. A general goal of most testators is to take care of their dependants (family) during the testator’s life and after they are gone. However, providing appropriate financing and health care options for a special needs person poses both challenges and opportunities that requires a team of professional advisors across the various disciplines of law, accounting, financial planning, insurance, and possibly others, who understand not only the technical issues and how to resolve them effectively but also the deeply personal side of disability planning.
